Jones Joins LFA Fulltime

Former Summer Intern Joins Fulltime Staff

Adam Jones, EI, joins LFA in the Construction Inspection Department at LFA after graduating this spring from Purdue University-West Lafayette.

Jones interned at LFA two summers in a row, gaining the opportunity to explore different aspects of civil engineering. While his college emphasis was in transportation, the internships at LFA taught him he prefers working outdoors, which led him to construction inspection.

He said, for the most part, his job consists of managing work change directives, enforcing standards and specifications, and helping contactors get through their schedule as a liaison between client and contractors. Having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE), last fall, he can now hold those credentials as a college graduate and help ensure teams are following plan specifications on site.

Jones said he loves that his job allows him to continually meet new people all the time. He was particularly involved in the Mishawaka City Hall project and was encouraged by the opportunity to work with very professional contractors. “It was nice to see how different teams worked and connected with each other.” he said.

“I also really like seeing the physical work actually being built as a project nears completion,” he said. “At the end you can really see the project getting cleaned up and looking nice and better than what it was before. That’s pretty satisfying.”

While Jones had plenty of choices, he said LFA was an easy choice as it is in his hometown of South Bend, where his grandfather was a civil engineer as well.

“LFA seems to be tight knit and coworkers are always asking me to go to lunch, how was my weekend. We care for each other,” he said.

This winter as outdoor work slows, Jones said he hopes to gain some design experience, possibly in transportation.

In his spare time, Jones enjoys hiking, having just completed a post-graduation trip to the Hoosier National Forest and he is currently learning to play tennis with his girlfriend.

Happy to have you join us full time, Adam!
