Dewes Rounds Out Water Resources Department in LFA Indy Office

Water Resources Becomes More Robust

We welcome Charlie Dewes, PE, CFM, as a project engineer in the LFA Water Resources Department. Dewes joins our 53-year-old company from the recently opened Indianapolis office, rounding out the LFA team for the Central Indiana market.

Dewes, who has more than 15 years experience in water resources civil engineering, said his previous work was more managerial and he craved getting back into water distribution, floodplain and storm water modeling. He is especially fond of floodplain modeling and interested in 2D modeling projects, he said.

“I was really looking to dive back into the technical aspects of water resources,” he said. “I wanted to be directly involved in projects instead of just the management part.”

Dewes’ rich career history has also given him experience on coal ash storage systems (CCR), landfill and runoff control systems. And, he is a fluent Spanish speaker.

At LFA, he said he hopes to get the opportunity to work on water distribution and transportation projects through INDOT and other cities and towns in Indiana.

While working for other engineering firms, Dewes said he had the opportunity to partner on projects with some stellar LFA engineers and saw that the firm’s standard of work was very high.

“That was one of the ways I knew LFA was a good place to be — because I knew they did that work really well,” he said.

Dewes’ undergraduate degree from Purdue University-West Lafayette was a combination between agricultural and civil engineering. Born and raised in Indianapolis, Dewes said he also spent a lot of time growing up near Vincennes, Ind., so he experienced both city and country living, a viewpoint that helps him manage different types of engineering projects.

He is currently working on his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Indiana University-Indianapolis Kelley School of Business with the goal of understanding management, finance, budgets and organizational strategies better. He is set to graduate spring 2025.

In his spare time, Dewes plays league (and sometimes competitive) tennis, mentors for Big Brothers Big Sisters and teaches yoga at several Indianapolis studios. You can find him at his Indianapolis home with his beagle, Bernie, and his cat, Beau.

Happy to have you join us full time, Charlie!
