Freeman Patterson Joins LFA for Summer Term
Freeman Patterson, a Purdue University senior, joins the LFA team this summer as an engineering intern. With an emphasis in structural engineering, the civil engineering major is looking forward to learning how “actual engineering” works.
“You don’t really do ‘engineering work’ in college. It’s all math,” he said. This summer he will be working in transportation and water to fine-tune his skills and hone his career path, he said. “I’m hoping to get a feel for it and just see what I like.”

Patterson said he found LFA on LinkedIN and was happy with the company size and location close to home. He said a smaller company size means he’ll get to know the people he works with and be able to just get up and walk over to talk to them, as opposed to a large corporation where communication is more digital.
“You get to know people,” he said. Patterson’s father, a housepainter, taught him growing up the importance of good co-worker relationships. He said he attended Bremen Senior High School and noticed an early aptitude for math, which led him to engineering.
“Engineering just felt like a natural fit,” he said.
This summer he’ll live at home in Bremen with family. His mom is an accountant.
In his spare time, Patterson enjoys bicycling, movies and reading fiction. He also plays the keyboard and was drum major in high school marching band.
Welcome to the team Freeman!
