The City of Mishawaka, Lawson-Fisher Associates, Arkos Design and Ziolkowski Construction were recently honored by the Michiana Area Construction Industry Advancement Fund and presented with the 2020 Excellence in Construction Award for the Ball Band Biergarten Project – Phase II of Ironworks Plaza.
The City of Mishawaka is moving forward with an exciting and unique project to create additional event space along the City’s popular Riverwalk and vibrant downtown area. The project consists of three phases:
Phase I – Parking lot, sidewalks, ice rink retaining walls and utilities (completed 2021)
Phase II – Biergarten event and gathering space (completed 2021). The Ironworks Plaza Biergarten is a unique event space that will be used for festivities for all ages and will provide concessions and restroom facilities during the City special events as well as daily respite.
Phase III – Completion of Ironworks Plaza with event center, café, winter ice skating area, event stage, skate rental, art sculptures and fog fountain area (completion is scheduled for late 2022). Phase III will provide a unique ice skating venue, skate rental area, café for food and drinks year around, outside event stage and an interior second floor event center for parties, weddings and meetings.
Lawson-Fisher Associates PC was chosen to lead a multi-discipline design team that consisted of seven sub-consultants. In addition to overall project management, LFA performed design services for all site work consisting of storm water, sanitary sewer and water utilities, site grading, parking lot design, erosion control, pedestrian and vehicle maintenance of traffic plans, and topographic survey.
LFA was also chosen to lead the services during construction providing site inspection and administration services through completion of Phases I and II and site inspection and administration assistance to Arkos Design, Inc. for Phase III.
“LFA is proud to receive this award and looks forward to working with the community on additional lifestyle enhancement projects creating beautiful spaces in the future,” President Paul Hummel said. “We extend congratulations to our project partners, The City of Mishawaka, Arkos Design and Ziolkowski Construction with anticipation that the people of Mishawaka will enjoy this space as much as we enjoyed developing it.”
