More than 20 Lawson-Fisher staff alongside their family and friends helped pack meals for Feed My Starving Children last week as part of the company’s effort to assist in the community and volunteer time to improve the world.

Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food to people in developing nations. Founded in 1987, it has reached out to more than 70 countries. This year, LFA worked through the Nappanee Missionary Church, which helped reach this year’s goal, surpassing 20 million meals.

This year, the meals packed will be sent to Malawi, Liberia and Guatemala.

According to the organization, “Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and undernutrition. Hunger is still causing nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old. From this data, we estimate at least 6,200 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition. This is heartbreaking. Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) believes hope starts with food. As a Christian nonprofit, FMSC is dedicated to seeing every child whole in body and spirit. FMSC works with food distribution partners that stay with communities for the long haul, empowering them to move from relief to development. FMSC meals are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition. Nutrition allows children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential.”

LFA Senior Engineering Technician Ginger Hoover spearheaded this year’s volunteer event. “I love helping with Feed My Starving Children every year. It’s nice LFA supports staff in our desire to make an impact here and globally,” she said. “Plus, everyone had a lot of fun doing it.”
