More About This Project

Category: Transportation

Lawson-Fisher Associates designed this roadway improvement project in LaPorte County in order to reduce high accident frequency on U.S. 20 between Woodland Avenue and Johnson Road, as well as to address deteriorated pavement conditions. Lawson-Fisher Associates performed a comprehensive traffic analysis and identified safety and capacity needs for this segment of U.S. 20. Crash data secured from INDOT and local sources was used with other analysis tools to review abnormal crash activity. Lawson-Fisher Associates prepared improvement scenarios to advance recommended alternatives.

Lawson-Fisher Associates recommended developing a two-way left turn lane between Woodland Avenue and Johnson Road and an auxiliary right turn lane adjacent to the Evergreen Park Business Center to improve safety and capacity. In addition to the roadway widening, the project included superelevation corrections, drainage improvements, HMA preventive maintenance work, and other roadside safety improvements.
