Category: Water Resources

Lawson-Fisher Associates has been involved in a Map Modernization project for various counties in Indiana since 2005. Map Modernization is part of an effort to update the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) flood map information used in conjunction with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Three study methods are utilized (approximate, redelineation and detailed), with the IDNR determining which method to be used for a particular stream. The FEMA Map Modernization includes use of current digital topographic data and more robust modeling resulting in more accurate, digital flood maps to assess flood risk.

The map modernization is performed by county, with Lawson-Fisher Associates working on 16 counties in Indiana: Carroll, Elkhart, Grant, Howard, Jasper, LaGrange, Miami, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Stueben, Wabash, Wells and White Counties.
