Meet Jason Flatto, EI, LFA’s newest Transportation Engineer
Jason Flatto, EI, joins LFA Transportation staff after graduating in 2024 from Purdue University-Lafayette.
Hailing from the Indianapolis area, Flatto’s father was an engineer on nuclear submarines and then a doctorate-credentialed professor of Applied Business Analytics at the University of Indianapolis. His mom is a retired actuary and also a Purdue University graduate.
Flatto, who has a twin sister currently working with law enforcement in the Indianapolis area, decided on Purdue because it has one of the best engineering programs in the country and because his mom is an alumna. Upon passing his Fundamentals of Engineering exam and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, Flatto took a few months off before job seeking in earnest.
As he began his job search, he emphasized mid-sized firms.
“I’d rather go to a smaller firm at the beginning of my career because I can learn more here,” he said, noting he has already been able to work on a variety of projects, which is not common for new transportation engineers.
Flatto said, “And, to be honest, LFA has a great compensation package. That was definitely a factor in my choices.”
He said he had never even visited South Bend before his interview and is enjoying exploring the area now that he has moved here.
In his spare time, Flatto loves hiking, fishing and playing video games with friends. His favorite game is Bloodborne, an action, role-playing game. He is also an avid horror movie fan, 1979’s Alien being his favorite. Flatto said he also enjoys listening to alternative and classic rock, though the Beatles are his favorite band and She’s Leaving Home from St. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, his favorite song.
