Water Resources Engineer Goes Back to School, Earns MBA

Charlie Dewes, PE, CFM, and Indianapolis office Water Resources engineer, has just graduated from the Indiana University-Indianapolis Kelley School of Business with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a degree he earned over two years, while also working full time. Dewes said his goal was to understand management, finance, budgets and organizational strategies, making him an even more capable civil engineer.

He said a side benefit of his MBA program was forming relationships with the other students he worked with while earning the degree.

“My cohort has been full of brilliant folks of all different professional and cultural backgrounds who challenged me to grow in ways that I didn’t think I could. And along the way I found, like many people do, that the tools of learning business are invaluable but the people and inner transformations matter even more,” he said.

Dewes, who was one of the pioneer engineers in LFA’s recently opened Indianapolis office, rounds out the LFA team for the Central Indiana market. He has more than 15 years experience in water resources civil engineering, and came to LFA a few years ago to spend more time working on water distribution, floodplain and storm water modeling, he said.

Dewes’ undergraduate degree is from Purdue University-West Lafayette, a combination between agricultural and civil engineering. He is also a fluent Spanish speaker and was born and raised in Indianapolis.

In his spare time, Dewes plays league (and sometimes competitive) tennis, mentors for Big Brothers Big Sisters and teaches yoga at several Indianapolis studios. You can find him at his Indianapolis home with his beagle, Bernie, and his cat, Beau.
