Beery Joins LFA Survey Department

New Face Graces Survey Department

LFA recently hired Adam Beery, PLS, as a Senior Surveyor to prepare survey plats and review survey deliverables. Beery comes to LFA from an engineering firm in Indianapolis.

Beery transitioned to LFA after working parttime while also being a stay-at-home dad. His new position with LFA allows him to work from his Plymouth, Ind., home most of the week and help raise his boys Ben, 15, and Luke, 11, with his wife, Dawn, a physical therapist for the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

Beery’s PLS (Professional Land Surveyor) qualification made him an attractive job candidate at many firms but he chose LFA because he had built a professional relationship at Indiana State Professional Land Surveyor’s events with some LFA staff over the years and felt he would fit in well with the department, he said.

“Plus, Lawson-Fisher has a good reputation,” he said. “That’s key.”

Beery also liked the idea of working on projects central to his geographic area, which was not something that happened much at the Indianapolis firm.

“The work I do now with LFA is similar to what I’ve been doing, but with with more local projects,” he said. “I like to be able to be more a part of the community I am in.”

A 2003 graduate of Purdue University, Beery majored in civil engineering but was always drawn to the construction field. Originally he thought he would go into building design or construction management but Purdue offered a co-op program with a dual civil engineering/land surveying program. He was able to co-op with an engineering firm, alternating work and classes each semester until graduation with a dual major.

When one of the job opportunities allowed him to try survey, he realized he liked it and decided to stick with it, eventually earning his PLS in 2007.

“Finding boundary corners, determining property lines — all of that piqued my interest,” he said.

In his spare time, Beery is involved in Calvary Lutheran Church in Plymouth, serving as treasurer and elder in the past. He has officiated high school sports in football, basketball and baseball and coaches rec baseball.

Welcome to the team Adam!
