U.S. 24 over Tippecanoe River
LFA was selected by the Indiana Department of Transportation to design the bridge replacement and additional road improvements on U.S. 24 through Monticello, Indiana. U.S. 24 is the primary transportation corridor crossing the Tippecanoe River in this region. U.S. 24 is also part of the 4R Network, the National Highway System and on the National Truck Network making this a very significant structure. Part of the project’s requirements was ensuring that the Maintenance Of Traffic Plan minimized impacts to both the City of Monticello and the significant over-the-road truck traffic on U.S. 24. This was accomplished by establishing a proposed work sequence through construction allowing it to remain open. Major design features included designing a new five-span, 478-ft. replacement bridge, realigning U.S. 24 toward the north to correct an existing horizontal curve issue, sidewalks, decorative street lighting and other pertinent intersection improvements.
