U.S. 24 at C.R. 300E Intersection Improvements
White County, Indiana
The assignment of an as-needed intersection improvement contract to address a deficient intersection geometry consisted of improving the U.S. 24 at C.R. 300E intersection. The project included adding opposing left and right auxiliary turn lanes, lane transitions, superelevation correction through the intersection, roadside drainage improvements, flasher installation and other peripheral project improvements. Including transitioning C.R. 300E, approaches were transitioned from the corrected U.S. 24 superelevation while still providing an adequate AASHTO WB-67 turning movement for westbound U.S. 24 traffic to access a commercial grain elevator immediately adjacent to the intersection. The U.S. 24 vertical profile was developed to maximize existing pavement reuse for widening while still minimizing the project’s right-of-way requirements for roadside drainage improvements. The project was developed to 3R non-freeway standards for rural arterials meeting both INDOT’s needs and budget. The project was built under a phased Maintenance Of Traffic Plan providing continuous access for both adjacent businesses and residences. LFA was solely responsible for roadway design, drainage design, pavement markings, flasher design, topographic survey, right-of-way engineering and maintenance of traffic.
