Sturgis Recreation Plan – Pahl Point & Covered Bridge Parks

City of Sturgis

Sturgis, Michigan

Recreational improvements were planned and designed for Pahl Point Park  and Covered Bridge Park located, respectively, on the north and south side of the Sturgis Impoundment. These improvements were constructed to meet the requirements of Article 409 of the Sturgis Hydroelectric Project License. Various improvements were completed including replacing a fishing pier with one of accessible design, widening and extending an existing boat launch, construction of multiple walkways and nature trails with three accessible footbridges, signage, lighting, replacement of playground equipment, and so much more. Wildlife enhancements included one Osprey nesting platform, three Mallard nesting baskets, six Bluebird boxes and two Screech Owl nesting boxes. All recreational improvements were developed to ADA standards. Many of the proposed improvements were a result of consultation with the MDNR during the relicensing process, specifically to improve accessibility.
