Kamm Island Bridge
Mishawaka Park Department
The Kamm Island Vehicular Bridge, 70-ft. long by 13-in. wide, utilized bridge elements that were fabricated remotely and shipped to the site where the contractor assembled, installed and placed these elements with a concrete deck and approach slabs. This construction method provided for a shortened construction time line while maximizing the City of Mishawaka’s available funding. The bridge serves as the only vehicular connector to Kamm Island and as a result the bridge was designed to accommodate occasional emergency, full sized vehicles and various construction or specialized park equipment even though it is primarily used by pedestrians and other non-motorized traffic.
