GIS Database, Design & Development
City of Sturgis
The City of Sturgis Electric Department contracted with LFA to revise their existing Electric Utility GIS File Geodatabase so that department staff could easily navigate through the database to retrieve and analyze existing data. LFA staff created a new geodatabase format (ArcSDE) for the City and loaded the data from the old File Geodatabase into the new ArcSDE database with the assistance of ESRI software. Additionally, LFA personnel modified the City’s GPS data dictionary collection forms so that all electric utility features that are collected in the future may be seamlessly integrated in the revised GIS geodatabase. The resulting GIS has been a useful tool for City staff to maintain and operate the electric utility. LFA has helped the City implement ArcGIS online mapping for communication of electric outages to rate-payers. Since full adoption of the Electric Utility GIS Database, the City has utilized LFA as the acting GIS manager. Serving in that capacity, LFA has assisted the City in implementing ArcServer and has overseen the installation of the GIS server and software. In addition, LFA has helped the City to create and advance data projects for water, wastewater, parks, cemeteries, economic development, police, fire, parcel assessment, and airport area economic development. LFA has also been able to help the City navigate through the process of expanding from an ESRI small utility licensing group to an ESRI all government licensing group.
