LFA Engineering Design – Ireland Road/Locust Road Intersection

Did you know LFA designed the signalization and grade improvements at the Ireland Road/Locust Road intersection?

Sight distance deficiencies in addition to the location of two single family homes immediately north of the intersection required attention. Meeting the homeowners needs, focus was placed on the relocation and reconfiguration of the existing drives to allow garage usage.

Concrete modular block retaining walls were built to overcome the proposed elevation difference fulfilling the project’s needs.

This project also included coordination with two ARRA INDOT bridge replacements immediately north and east of its limits.

LFA was solely responsible for roadway design, drainage design, pavement markings and signing, lighting, signalization, right-of-way engineering, maintenance of traffic, and construction inspection.

LFA Celebrates 45th Anniversary

LFA Building PhotoLawson-Fisher Associates P.C. (LFA) consulting engineering firm was formed on May 21, 1971 and is celebrating its 45th year of providing engineering services to public and private clients in a variety of professional engineering areas. LFA offers a broad range of consulting engineering services in the areas of water resources, GIS, wastewater, water distribution, dam engineering, transportation, stormwater and structures.

From the time that the firm opened its doors in 1971, LFA has been locally owned and operated. Over that period, we have worked for a large array of clients throughout Indiana and Michigan. Our public client base consists mainly of state and local municipalities of all sizes. Although our clients all have different requirements and needs, due to LFA’s diversified personnel and experience, we are able to help them accomplish their goals.

Lawson-Fisher Associates’ approach to providing engineering services is to offer a broad range of civil engineering expertise for projects principally in the areas of transportation, sewer systems, water distribution systems, water resources, structures, bridges, and geographic information systems. In the interest of providing the best possible services for the client’s needs on complex, larger projects LFA has typically collaborated with fellow professionals whose particular expertise in certain areas complements that of Lawson-Fisher Associates.

An important element in our approach is that the individual professionals involved in helping to define the client’s needs or scope of the project are also intimately involved in […]

What Makes LFA a Great Place to Work?

We recently posted several employment opportunities and mentioned that LFA has been chosen as one of the “Best Places to Work” in the state of Indiana numerous times. Have you wondered what makes LFA a great place to work? Please read on!

As we’ve mentioned before, LFA offers opportunities to work on challenging projects, professional training, and career advancement. We are a 40 person firm, wholly owned by the employees through corporate stock. This means that we’re large enough to handle significant projects, in size, complexity and quantity, yet small enough that it’s not difficult to know every other employee and something about their family. With this knowledge, leadership is able to balance work assignments between employees so that projects can be delivered on schedule, while keeping individual responsibilities appropriate.

The personal relationships we’ve developed give LFA more the feeling of a group of friends than people tied together just by business. LFA sponsors the normal array of corporate functions – Holiday parties, golf outings, summer picnics, community service events and outings to minor league baseball games – and regularly sponsors the athletic teams of employees’ children, but it is common for coworkers to participate in unsponsored activities outside of the corporate umbrella as well. There have been softball, soccer, golf and bowling teams made entirely of employees. Employees routinely challenge each other to matches of skill such as golf, fantasy football, card games, go-karting and sporting clays. We fish together, run together, play games together, […]

2016 Sunburst Events

LFA runners and walkers are gearing up for the 2016 Sunburst Races which will take place on June 4, 2016.

Sunburst Races is held in South Bend, Indiana each year and is one of the premier running events in the Midwest. The races begin in downtown South Bend and finish at the University of Notre Dame. Events include a fun walk, 5K run, 10K run, half-marathon and marathon. The events typically attract nearly 10,000 participants. Sunburst Races is a fundraiser to support the Memorial Children’s Hospital.

For several years now, LFA has sponsored the Sunburst Corporate Team Challenge to support the local Children’s Hospital and to encourage physical fitness for LFA employees. All costs for the employees and immediate family members are paid for by LFA. This event continues to grow each year and LFA is expecting a record turnout in 2016. In 2015, LFA sponsored 29 participants and the 10K team took home the 2nd place award out of 8 teams while the 5K team placed 5th out of 27 teams. Rumor has it that both teams are expecting to finish in the top 3 this year.
